Would you like to be the “No. 1″? When you’re a super-rich guy, a multi-millionaire, how would you like to spend your US$14 million?
I was stunned and bowled over what caught my eyes this morning written in one of the daily newspapers. It talked about a super-rich man in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who spent millions of dollars just to be number one. The paper said, “Without batting an eyelid, a businessman dished out a record US$14 million (THB458 million) for a car licence plate at a charity auction in the UAE on Saturday.” The businessman, Mr. Saeed Abdel Ghaffar Khouri, was quoted as saying, “It’s not huge compared to my family’s fortune” after bidding 52.2 million dirhams for an Abu Dhabi licence plate bearing the single number “1“. Learning from this, I then felt the itch and really wanted to sell to him my 3 special mobile phone numbers, too, if he needs them for a hefty sum of $$$$$…hehe. I wish he would contact me for the VIP numbers…the question is, would he need them?
He said to the organizers and the media that the price was fair. “After all, who among us does not want to be No. 1,” Khouri said. Emirates Auction, which organised the sale, said on its website that it had been expected to set a new world record for the most expensive care licence plate in the world and only last May, another citizen of the oil-rich UAE spent more than US$5 million to buy a licence plate bearing the number “5“. Hmmm, what else to say? Really super-rich people just don’t care so much about overspending on some things that may not really be that fancy…at least to others, to us. The treasure could already save millions of lives in the less fortunate parts of the world. Okay, I’m jealous, I’m jealous, I know that! Hehe. So, do you want to be No. 1? A millionaire? I want to be both at least in my wildest dreams.
