A simple and very common tip—don’t drive aggressively! Toink! I failed. Edmunds.com conducted real-world fuel-economy tests on a Land Rover LR3 and Mustang with V-8 engines and found that of all the tips tested, this one produced major savings. Controlled and smooth driving improved mileage in the SUV by a whopping 35% and 27% in the car. Amazing! Not that I would really thought of! Considering the ever rising gas prices, that simply means that you’ll save $20 every time you fill a 20-gal tank of an SUV and $11 on a 15-gal coupe tank. Now, you got to be careful because using cruise control also improved mileage by 14% for SUV and 4.5% for the car. I wrote earlier about keeping tires in perfect condition and inflated properly can save you money. However, Edmunds.com’s findings said that by doing so as well as driving without the air-conditioning unit on did not improve the mileage as dramatically. Hmmm…good lessons learnt!
