A research done by a Filipino scientist on the use of feathers to build up homes in Asia is being heralded as environmentally and economically sound. Menandro Acda, a professor of the University of the Philippines - U.P., Los Banos, created a new composite building board made of chicken feathers that could be a major breakthrough for the construction industry in Asia. He said that the material that’s made of compressed cement and feathers could be widely used for housing thereby replacing boards, now made with wood chips, which are easily ruined by hungry insects. This new material would be resistant to the region’s armies of termites and could also solve a major environment problem not only in the Philippines but also in the neighboring Asian countries. This is another very useful way and a great initiative of disposing of millions of kilograms of waste feathers each year. We no longer worry about killing and consuming too much chickens. They’re not only delicious to eat — their feathers can give us shade and provide economical shelters as well. Now, let’s be eco-friendly!
