Q2/2008 registered an ultra-high number of death toll from the recent tragedies in both China and Myanmar — and sad to note that the number keeps rising! The earthquake in southern China has devastated lives and properties, and the number of people missing and suspected to be buried alive (could be dead by now!) is also high. The death toll now has climbed to about 25,000 and add to that still all those who remain missing and unaccounted for. News reports say that the figure remains an estimate and could rise any moment soon.

While in Myanmar, the devastating cyclone had swiped out homes and livestocks — everything — killed thousands of people and displaced thousands more. The death toll was officially reported at close to 80,000, too, as of last night with so many more missing and unaccounted for. If aids to the most vulnerable victims come much further delayed and if those unfortunate others remain unassisted or brought to safety, there would be more troubles as more people will perish, die, or get sick.

It’s good to see a number of good people and international organizations that acted very promptly to reach out to the victims and offer the much needed assistance at their time of grief and difficulty. It’s just amazing to see how the international community responded so quickly to help the victims and also to help rescue those who have been buried under the mountains of debris (earthquake) and those who remain in the dangerous zones of the disastrous cyclone.

God, please help us!
