Driving my car along the coast of Phuket towards Trang was an opportunity and a great experience I will never forget. The views and landscapes along the coastal line were so beautiful and the weather was fair and very cooperative. It never rained and so the trip was a whole lot of fun. Before reaching the first town after Phuket, I saw a sports car allegedly (my guess only!) owned by a prominent politician in the south of Thailand bore a license plate with no numerical data…just the vertical lines. Oh, if you know about how bar codes are made, used and deciphered, then you must be great. I can’t! A bar code or bar codes (also called Universal Product Codes or U.P.C. symbols) are the small black-and-white lined squares visible on virtually every product you buy. Each product has a different code and each code has a unique configuration of lines that corresponds to a unique 12-digit number where these numbers are used to track shipments and sales of products in virtually every industry. I have no idea if the driver had paid his car from the dealer or if he has been assigned an airway bill number for the shipment of his car to Thailand. Hehe…just kidding. After all, his car plate was so innovative that only him knows what the letters and numbers really are and whether the bar codes denote the real license plate number or not. I guess the police officer will find trouble identifying which car had exceeded the driving speed limit or if the said car’s plate had been stolen—just like mine!
