“Christmas Goes Global”

I remember when I was a child — during cold and dry seasons in Burma especially in December, the loveliest month of the year — children were all happy. Various events, traditional or not, were widely celebrated but among the most exciting ones was the Christmas Day. We could hear songs of Christmas carols floating everywhere in the air around town and the Christmas song that I loved the most was “Jingle Bells”. My children now love it, too.

Christmas not only represents Christianity but also the races of all kinds, the regions of the world and even any color of political systems. The symbol of Christmas is reflected in times of sharing joy, happiness, and offering; in singing, drinking and festivals in commemoration of the birth of Christ and the time of family reunion. I do believe that the faith of Christianity reflected in the teachings about patience, forgiveness, kindness, endurance, and revenge is so natural and humanitarian. Although Christianity originated in the Middle East, it is disseminating and propagating worldwide. Nowadays, Christmas is celebrated all over the globe even in communist Russia and China. How marvelous and awesome it really is!

I realized that Christmas is not only a sign of Christianity but the festival of the world prior to wishing, welcoming and celebrating the coming of a Happy New Year! How beautiful and lovely it is to experience Christmas with everybody, anybody! That’s why Christmas goes international, I say.

Every year, my sweet memories of Christmas always lingers as below:

- Before Christmas Day, I always hear ‘‘We wish you a merry Christmas’’ sung by troupes of carolers.
- In ‘‘Christmas Time”, everybody is happy and joyful, I do believe.
- There’s “Silver Bells”, Ring-A-Ling, hear them ring on every street corner.
- And ‘‘Jingle Bells”, Jingle all the way, Oh what fun it is to ride in an open sleigh!
- Then “Santa Claus is coming to town” delivering presents to the children.
- So, ‘‘Senior Santa Claus” is coming down from the chimney at night.
- Oh! ‘‘Santa looks like Daddy and Daddy looks like Santa” — I’m not really dreaming but it’s confusing.
- My parents and friends are “Rocking around the Christmas tree” with Presley’s songs.
- Some are dancing with “Merry Christmas Polka” anyway.
- But I’m busy with “There is an Old Christmas Card” in the drawer.
- And dreaming of the “White Christmas”.
- Also, I’m so lonesome I could cry and I’m thinking about “Lonely this Christmas”.
- And I have a “Blue Christmas” without you because I’d be so blue thinking about YOU.
- Finally, “Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” to YOU!

Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya: A Mismatched Dream Match

We’re right but just a little worried about the media frenzy when lavish promotions were made for the Pacquiao-De La Hoya Dream Match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada — that it was a mismatch! At first we thought it was with Manny “The Pacman” Pacquiao, being the smaller and less famous underdog, trying to fight with the bigger and most marketable boxer “Golden Boy”, Oscar De La Hoya — and yes, it really was a mismatch! Pacquiao came out a victor over De La Hoya and the Filipino ring hero continued to validate his status as the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter when he defied the odds in knocking out boxing icon De La Hoya in their welterweight Dream Match on Dec. 6 ‘08. We wonder if sister Judith and her hubby saw this great match live as it was held just a short drive from their Nevada home. Pacquiao landed almost 3x as many total punches as De La Hoya, almost 4x as many power shots and landed 59% of all power shots he threw.

De La Hoya, the 1992 Olympic gold-medal winner and a professional world champion in 6 weight classes, was hammered as he never was in 44 previous bouts before trainer Nacho Beristain mercifully asked referee Tony Weeks to halt the carnage after eight one-sided rounds.

“I’m not shocked because at this stage (of a fighter’s career) when you face someone like Pacquiao, you know it’s going to be a hard fight,” De La Hoya said before leaving the ring. “My style is to go forward and he was boxing on his toes.”

Vermiform Appendix and Appendicitis

You are strongly advised to immediately see your doctor if you are experiencing serious swelling or abdominal pains. Appendix is a vestigial organ and was said to be useless. However, when it’s inflamed or infected, it can lead to blood poisoning or septicaemia and can result to death when not removed immediately. It’s practically useless to have it in the body, yet, it can cause deep trouble when inflamed.

I already lost a friend from it as nobody in his family knew what really was the problem that caused severe pain in his abdomen. You know how it’s like to be in a rural area — the lack of medical experts and the necessary facilities. That medical condition is called appendicitis which is an inflammation of the vermiform appendix. The appendix is located at the base of our large intestine which is very close to our caecum just in the right iliac fossa region.

Thai food is probably one of the best foods on the planet ever. Most of the typical ingredients in Thai cuisine are basil leaves, garlic, chillies as well as soy sauce; when combined with a few more exotic ones such as coconut milk, lemon grass and Thai fish sauce, you can already create a fresh dining experience for anyone. Thai cuisine is simply all about balancing the 5 flavor extremes of sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and hot. It is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce.

I personally had a great time enjoying all the finger-licking goodies that my friend prepared for us on her farewell party. Each and every single dish that she cooked tasted really very good. My favorites were the baked and steamed prawns, the green chicken curry, papaya salad, and the grilled fish with spicy sauce.
