Retiring to bed very early after a long day’s work wasn’t at all as gratifying as in the case of this young Thai couple I’ve read about on an old local paper yesterday. Only at 36 and 33 yrs old, respectively, Abdulla Hassan and Rosita Hassan will become THB89,000,001.00 (approx. US$2,696,969.73) richer after the sale of Rosita’s heirlooms given to her by her in-laws as wedding gifts. She is the 5th generation to inherit the 200-year-old diamond-studded ruby ring and ornate bracelet that were given to her in-laws’ ancestor — a cook for the Pattani ruler. Bangkok Post said that the family has put the ring and bracelet up for 89 million and 1 bahts although the pieces could fetch a heftier sum of money on the open market. Can you imagine yourself having that kind of valuable item? Huh, it’s way universe-wide far from possible for me…sigh!
Why that beefy in monetary terms? Because…apart from being 200-year heirlooms from their ancestors in the Pattani rulers’ era, the diamonds surrounding the 7.5-carat ruby on the ring display a rare, ancient cut and both pieces were made with exceptional workmanship. Let me ask you, “what would you do if you own these pieces of jewelry” or the “THB89,000,001″? If and only if I really have them? Let me think — hehe — I may have to give one piece to my sis Judith of Cherished Child Care Center - Nevada who’s celebrating her birthday today. That’s gonna be a real bulky piece of birthday gift from me to her, but then again, how
? Just dreamin’ yeah! Well, the Hassan family plans to keep just 30% of the entire proceeds and donate the rest to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s charities and the victims of violence or unrest in Thailand’s far south, as well as the building of important structures such as mosques. Cheers and — hmm, never mind, I’m jealous! Hehe…Happy Birthday to you, my dear Sis! Seize the day, it’s all yours!
